Being Smart With Your Time Spent Gaming

It can be very easy to feel like your wasting time when you’re dedicating a large part of your life to video games. People often lump this sort of entertainment into the same basket as watching television, often making gamers feel lazy for doing what they enjoy. These titles can offer much more than simple fun, though. Along with this, if they are used correctly, you can improve a great deal of your life with them, and this post is going to show you how to do it. Exploring three areas, it will give you all of the tools you need to be smarter with the time you spend on games.

Use Them To Improve Your Skills

While it may seem like staring at a screen isn’t a great way to learn, video games can be a powerful tool when you’re trying to improve certain skills. A MOBA, like Dota 2 or League of Legends, can give you the ability to deal with stressful situations, along with helping you to make quick decisions. First-person shooters, on the other hand, are best for people who want to boost their dexterity. To figure out which games you’ll need to work on the areas you want to make better, you’re going to need to do some research, using websites which list titles by the skills they require to play as your guide.

Use Them To Make Some Money

Along with helping you to improve yourself, more and more options are opening in the world of gaming which enable you to make some money. If you want to stick to normal games, low-level Esports can be a great way to achieve this, and it doesn’t have to be hard to get into them. Of course, though, finding an online casino is where the real money is in this part of the field. Relying on the gaming skills you already have, a lot of these sorts of sites can appeal to those who like a challenge, while also helping you to earn something in the process. Of course, though, you have to be careful not to spend too much on it.

Use Them For Your Social Time

Finally, as a slightly different approach, a lot of people find that it starts to get harder and harder to find time for things like seeing friends, playing games, and enjoying other entertainment as they get older. With a tough job making you busy, you will need to look for ways to bring these parts of your life together, and gaming could be the best way to do it. Online games and voice chat make it very easy to spend all of your social time playing. You’ll need to find titles which everyone enjoys, and this can be done by using websites like Steam to see what they already play.

Hopefully, this post will give you everything you need to start making more of the time you spend playing games. There is never a reason to feel bad about doing what you enjoy, but there’s also nothing wrong with using an emotion like guilt to improve yourself in a healthy way.

Geeky Ways to Save a Fortune in Your Business

October 25, 2016 by Dustin Ramsdell in Nerdy Stuff, Sponsored

In business, it pays to be a geek. Quite literally actually because there are a few concepts for ways to cut costs that you won’t be aware of unless of course, you are a nerd. Luckily, for you guys I happen to be one and I can help you out a lot with these clever ways to save. Are you ready to use the power of the noggin to make your overspending nothing?

Cloud Fun And Other Tech

Technology will save your business a fortune for a variety of cool reasons. First, when you upgrade your tech, you’re always buying items that are greener. The latest tech on the market is better at saving energy compared to tech that was being sold last year. That includes everything you need in the office from computers to printers.

Then there’s the possibility of going digital. There are plenty of examples of things that you no longer need in the office because you can purchase digital solutions for the same job. For instance, you don’t need a fax machine when you can organise and access faxes online.

But I think the most important way tech can be used to save you money is by using cloud servers. If you don’t know, cloud servers are simply digital storage space. Once you purchase a cloud server, you’ll be able to spend and send various forms of information online. It will be fast too with anyone getting anything they need from you in seconds. This increases your efficiency and, say it with me, saves you money!

Obviously, Outsourcing!

Outsourcing is another clever and perhaps a slightly geeky way to save your business cash. Through outsourcing, you can cut the costs of your business, by shifting expensive jobs elsewhere. For instance, outsourcing health and safety solutions will tackle any safety issues in your company. They’ll handle these problems from the outside, and all you need to do is pay a fixed price. This price is going to be a lot less than the typical cost of a full safety team, believe me.

As a geek, there is nothing more I love than automation. That’s a real possibility with some of the outsourcing solutions available. Automation simply means that processes are handled automatically. Again, this means a lower cost for you and a faster service for customers. Are you sold on the idea of outsourcing yet? I bet you are.

Fun With Numbers

Finally, if there’s one thing we geeks love it’s our numbers and sums. This brings us to the final way that you can save money in your company by being a little nerdier. You need to look at your tax payments. Make sure that you are making the most of your deductions. To do this, you’ll need to have some fun with numbers, making calculations for how much you spend. The more specific and accurate these calculations are the better. Most business owners find they save a fortune by keeping accurate tax records.

You see, it pays to be a geek!

Book Review: Smarter Than You Think

January 27, 2015 by Dustin Ramsdell in Book Reviews

"We have to interrogate our most destabilizing new technologies and be aware of their dangers (economic, political, and social), to flat-out avoid the tools we find harmful—yet not be blinded to the ones that truly augment our thought and bring intellectual joy."

After having it on my list of things to read for a while, I recently finished this book by Clive Thompson that explores the positive influence technology is having on our lives. I found this book to be a refreshing, engaging, and relevant look at modern technology and this book is chock full of awesome numbers, figures, and stories that drive home the main points.

While any book about technology that comes out these days is instantly out of date once it is published, Thompson does well here to focus on the broad strokes of what current technology offers us and how it is helping us. He also focuses on communication technology which is of interest to me personally rather than anything too scientific. The fact that he fills the book with just the influence of communication tools further supports how it is changing the world in a massive way. The way we share information, how we learn, and how we are governed has changed dramatically in the past few years.

Some of Thompson's examples of are the revolutions happening in the Middle East, the numerous times a problem has been solved quickly by an online community, and just the sheer amount of information being shared on social media every day. We're communicating with each other more now than ever before, and that impacts our friendships, our families, and our work. Some jobs are being created, others are being made obsolete. We can know what is happening all over the world in an instant and also find communities of people who love what we're passionate about, no matter how niche it might be.

I am optimistic in general and also just love social media so I'm very happy to have been able to read this book and share it. It gives a lot of objective facts about how all these new tools are making our lives better in meaningful ways. I don't see any of it going anywhere soon so we are going to keep reaping the benefits of being more connected for years to come.

I wanted to share some of my favorite excerpts, so here they are:

"I calculate that we’re composing at least 3.6 trillion words daily, or the equivalent of 36 million books every day. The entire U.S. Library of Congress, by comparison, holds around about 35 million books."

"When you gaze with wild surmise upon the Pacific of strangeness online, you confront the astonishing diversity of human passion."

"The things we think about are deeply influenced by the state of the art around us: the conversations taking place among educated folk, the shared information, tools, and technologies at hand."

You can find Smarter Than You Think at your favorite book retailer!

Thanks for stopping by!
